Artist Bio

Mary received a Masters in Art Therapy many years ago and has worked with others in a variety of art mediums. She has focused her work in the past three years focusing in clay. Her ceramic sculptures were recently shown at Guardino Gallery in Portland, Oregon.

Using different clay-bodies allows Mary to explore a range of vertical options in her ceramic work. She adjusts the cone firing (cone 04-6.0) to accommodate different clays. Mary primarily uses under-glazes that are lead free and embellishes some pieces with acrylic paints. Each piece is designed using a technique called “Sgraffito” in which a partial surface of the under-glaze is removed in a pattern before firing.
