Some photographs stop you. Not because of what they show, but because of what they make you feel — the quiet power of morning light on the Cascades, rivers threading over moss-covered rock, the deep stillness of a night sky over open land. That’s what Barb Gonzalez chases in every frame.

While her already detailed fine art images embody those emotional qualities, she is taking her prints to the next level using a process that collectors notice the moment they stop in front of one — a smooth, luminous print with a richness and depth of color that has to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. Each piece is mounted on metal or produced as a fine art print, available in custom sizes to suit any space.

Barb Gonzalez fell in love with photography in high school when her father brought home an SLR camera. But in those early days, instead of encouragement she got criticized, and for years wondered if she was good enough. It didn’t stop her from shooting anyway.

After pursuing a career in the film industry, she returned to photography and spent twenty years as a professional photographer, including twelve years as the primary travel photographer for The Bulletin and Pacific Northwest publications including Alaska Airlines Horizon, covering the American West, Hawaii, and Europe. Her work has been licensed by non-profits and featured as the centerpiece on billboards and signage for an Oregon State Lottery campaign.

Her work is on display at the Artists Gallery of Sunriver and available through her online gallery. This spring she will be offering iPhone photography classes at the gallery.

She lives in Bend with her two dogs, Maja and Einstein.
