Wood artist Jim Fister creates unique natural wood furniture and home accessories. Art designed to be touched and used, Jim incorporates the beauty of nature in his creations by not overly processing the wood he uses and sometimes adding natural stone. Natural is the key word for Jim’s work. He applies minimal manipulation to create usable art that is a welcome addition to any setting.

Jim got his start in construction and for the past 20 years worked in the field. So branching out to furniture and other home items is a natural step. His work in construction and finishing translated seamlessly to his art. He continues to try new techniques that are really old techniques. Most of Jim’s work is with small tools, both powered and traditional. Jim says he’ll continue to use more traditional methods rather than using fancy tools.

“God delivers significant beauty in nature, and man has put a unique spin on it through the cutting and milling. I like to bring out what’s already been exposed and show it in a new light to my audience,” explains Jim. What makes Jim’s wood creations unique is that he seeks to make art available to a variety of the senses. His work is designed to be touched and used. Even Jim’s 2D art benefits from the feel of the finished and rough parts of the work.
